Golden State Warriors’ All-Star guard Stephen Curry has been named the 2023-24 NBA Clutch Player of the Year, the NBA announced. This prestigious award recognizes Curry’s exceptional performance in tight, late-game situations.
Curry, 36, scored an NBA-high 189 points in clutch situations, which are defined as possessions in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime, with the score differential in the game being five points or less. He led the league in several clutch categories, including points, 3-pointers (32), and field goals made (59), hitting 49.6% from the field, 45.7% from 3-point range and 39-of-41 from the free throw line (95.1%).
The four-time NBA champion hit a pair of game-winning shots with less than one second remaining, converting a layup with 0.2 seconds left to give the Warriors a 141-139 win at Oklahoma City on Nov. 3 and a 3-pointer with 0.7 seconds remaining to give the Warriors a 113-112 victory over Phoenix on Feb. 10.
The award adds to Curry’s impressive resume that includes two MVPs, an All-Star Game MVP, an NBA Finals MVP, a Western Conference finals MVP, and nine All-NBA selections. The award was first handed out last year, when Sacramento’s De’Aaron Fox won the inaugural trophy.
Curry’s recognition as the NBA’s Clutch Player of the Year underscores his pivotal role in the Golden State Warriors and his exceptional ability to perform under pressure. His contributions continue to elevate the game of basketball, making him one of the most influential players in the sport today.
